One of the main strategies I use to avoid overeating is mindfulness. It's a form of awareness training where you take notice of every sensation that you encounter while eating. This allow for me to not only slow down, chew my food well, and notice when I am full, but also to appreciate the sensual experience of eating. By using all of these skills I am able to stop myself from overeating because I am aware of what all I am consuming, how much and actually enjoying the meal.
